Elopement at Storrs Hall – Keeley & Jamie

Keeley & Jamie’s November elopement at Storrs Hall

Weddings or elopements at Storrs Hall, are always something I look forward to. It’s a dream of a venue!

As soon as you enter the long driveway at Storrs Hall, you feel immersed in it’s opulence and timeless grandeur. A superb wedding and elopement venue for any size wedding, with a choice of lovely indoor ceremony rooms or the gazebo on the lawn, overlooking Windermere. When planning a stay for your wedding, there are so many rooms for couples to choose from. Deluxe rooms with a lake view in the main hotel, private suites with a hot tub overlooking the lake, or the boathouse which is set in its own part of the grounds.

Keeley and Jamie chose to stay in the boathouse for their elopement wedding. It is set in total privacy in it’s own part of the grounds, with a private gate. Right on the Lake shore, you are greeted with magnificent views to the Lakeland fells. There is a hot tub for you to enjoy, sitting back in luxury, sipping a glass of fizz and taking in the delights of the surrounding views.

The boathouse is very spacious, so there was plenty of room for me to do Keeley’s hair and makeup in the morning. We chose a natural makeup look, with shades to complement her dress. Keeley opted for a soft, romantic hairstyle with loose waves and pinned in a half up style.

The resident ducks wandered around outside, keeping us company throughout the morning.

The ceremony was held in the main part of the hotel, the room having a great window for allowing natural daylight in during the ceremony, even though it was Wintertime.

After a post ceremony drink and a relaxing few minutes for the newlyweds, we ventured out to create some lovely images. The weather was kind and allowed us to make full use of the gardens for the pictures.

One of the great many things I like about Storrs Hall, is that it has a circular path right around the gardens and many fabulous places to photograph as you walk round.

The jetty going out over the lake gives fabulous views over the Lakeland fells to the North of Ambleside. Often the pleasure cruisers glide past and all the passengers will give a cheery wave to the newlyweds, which is lovely. Further round the path, you come to the stone ‘Temple of heroes’ which is a stone walkway out over the lake, with a covered monument. Certainly not to be missed for photo opportunities. (If you are a ‘Corrie’ fan, this is where Mike Baldwin and Ken Barlow came to fisticuffs over Diedre many years ago)!!!

The ground was rather muddy as we had endured much rain during November and we needed to stray from the path to be nearer the water. Jamie had no problem with carrying his new bride over the grass for some pictures by the lake. Like a knight in shining armour !

Back inside, it was time to warm up and take some more pictures.  Storrs has many quirky features, such as the rotunda at the top of the stairs, a gorgeous piano room/ lounge and a fireplace in the main hall entrance.

Boasting a Lake view function room, Storrs Hall is equally suited to elopements, small weddings or large grand all-day celebrations. It is also a popular venue for proposals, which I have captured on many occasions here. It’s great for me to hide away and there are several areas which are great for a secret proposal.

Ooooh!… and afternoon tea which you can have in the conservatory area with full panoramic views over the lake.
